Will we say that that
was the year we burned the world down.
January burns in Chile, and
July’s embers whirled across the Parthenon
and from Achaea, Attica, Corfu, Corinthia, Evia, Magnesia, Phthiotis and Rhodes.
Motes of Andalucia, sooty bits of Sicily,
Calabrian, Sardinian and Apulian ash.
Alberta, Nova Scotia, Central Canada wilded with fires.
And further south in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico – old and burned now – North Carolina, Oregon, Washington, and… Lahaina damaged or destroyed by wildfires – satellite revealed and etched on the face of Gaia.
But will we sigh in BoardRooms, and say; “Oh well, time to get back to business”,
or will it end?
This burning we have brought upon ourselves, will we finally stop and say,
enough?
